PERFORMANCE

ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE.

Many believe that a supercar should only be driven on a perfect day, on a perfect stretch of road, and only by an expert driver. We have a different vision. That every day should be a supercar day. That you should be able to enjoy exhilaration with comfort and confidence, regardless of your skill level, on any road, regardless of conditions. A radical idea? Perhaps. But we like going our own way.

550HP 3.8-LITRE, TWIN-TURBO V6

At the heart of the GT-R is an ideally sized, twin-turbocharged 3.8-L V6 that produces a prodigious 550HP and equally immense 632Nm of torque. Hand-assembled by one of only five master craftsmen in the world allowed to create such a masterpiece. But it’s more than just exceptional skill that goes into the process that makes the GT-R so special. As one of the craftsmen says, “We put our souls into each engine, hoping to deliver that excitement to customers.”

HAND-CRAFTED TITANIUM EXHAUST

Another example of the precision crafting of the GT-R. To ensure the proper cooling from the engine’s massive output, an available titanium exhaust is now offered. Notoriously difficult to work with, each exhaust is hand-built by a master craftsman, and is specifically designed for an individual vehicle. Combined with an exotic sounding exhaust note, it’s music to any enthusiast’s ears.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

THE AIR CAN’T BELIEVE ITS EYES

Relentless tuning of the GT-R’s aerodynamics provides an incredibly clean Coefficient of Drag of 0.26 Cd. While you see a substantial, powerful supercar, to the wind, it punches through the air like a low-slung, mid-engine supercar. Pure aerodynamic alchemy.

SHAPED TO PERFECTION

While you may find the GT-R’s look more aggressive, the styling is pure function. Larger grille openings enhance cooling to key components, without increasing aerodynamic drag. Even the smallest detail was evaluated. An example, the C-pillar was slightly redesigned to stop the formation of a vortex that could slow the GT-R down. A 1% change in efficiency may not seem like much to some, but to the fanatical GT-R engineers, worthy of the effort.

INTERIOR

ARTISAN MEETS ENGINEER

The GT-R sees massive changes in its interior, to enhance both comfort and capability. Revised ergonomics puts control at your fingertips, for an easier drive, while new hand-selected and hand-crafted materials create an environment that will get your pulse racing – even before you start the engine.

GO PREMIUM, BUT NEVER GO SOFT

The GT-R elevates the driving experience with features like a dash cover created from a single, leather hide – hand-selected for a flawless leather appearance. Available semi-aniline leather appointments creating a soothing ambience. Even the interior acoustics have been retuned, to reduce unwanted noise, while allowing the pure intoxicating sound of the GT-R’s engine to thrill like never before.

EXPERT DRIVERS

AS Class drivers – the top development drivers at Nissan – help create a vehicle that would excel at any racetrack, in any kind of weather, in the hands of any level of driver.

DEVELOPMENT

Drivers are assigned to a unique aspect of Nissan GT-R’s development, including an Autobahn expert, a “Marketability” expert, and “Ringmeisters” who pit the GT-R against the legendary Nürburgring.

A SUPERCAR THAT SCULPTS THE WIND

EXTERIOR DESIGN

Rather than being designed to the demands of aerodynamics, the GT-R sculpts the air to its needs – becoming a force of nature as much as a force to be reckoned with.

REDESIGNED FRONT END

Larger grille openings allow more cooling air to key components. Reshaping the front fascia helps direct air around the front wheel wells, reducing drag.

SIDE SKIRTS AND C-PILLAR

Redesigning the GT-R’s side skirts helps prevent air flow from being drawn underneath the vehicle, allowing for more consistent downforce and grip. The area around the C-pillar has been refined to reduce turbulence, and to help accelerate air flow toward the rear of the body.

REDESIGNED REAR FASCIA

The rear of the GT-R’s rear fascia has been extended at the sides to accelerate air away from the back of the bumper, helping to pull hot gases away, to cool the exhaust.

MULTI-LED HEAD LAMPS

The head lamps feature four LED units to create an extremely natural light, featuring Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) that automatically adapts the angle of the light beam according to the speed of the car. At highway speeds, actuators in the head lamp unit adjust the angle of the projectors to project the light farther.

ICONIC TAIL LAMPS

The Nissan GT-R boasts tail lamps that reach iconic status. They are synonymous with Nissan GT-R, if only for the fact that people are used to seeing them as you leave them in the dust

PASSIONATELY INSPECTED

Fanatical attention to detail. On GT-Rs finished in Super Silver, a craftsman uses both hand and eyes to inspect the body of the GT-R. To bring out any imperfections, three different light sources – fluorescent, halogen and diluted flood lighting – are used to see various types of qualities in the paint as if it were at night, daylight or simply under intense scrutiny.

PRECISION BUILT

Vibration testing, laser measurements, and comprehensive inspections by experienced specialists are performed on every Nissan GT-R to ensure long-term functionality.

COMPLETELY CAPTIVATING

INTERIOR DESIGN

A tradition of craftsmanship makes the GT-R a supercar that will take your breath away – even when sitting still.

DECADES TO PERFECT THINGS YOU TOUCH FOR A SECOND.

Turn an air vent that was studied, designed, and developed by a quality expert to operate flawlessly for years. Rotate a switch that’s been subtly etched on the outside to enhance its feel. Or let your eyes travel across a dashboard that comes from a single Nappa leather hide, hand-selected for tone, and free of even the smallest imperfection. This is attention to detail bordering on obsession.

SEMI-ANILINE LEATHER INTERIOR

Available leather appointments on the centre console, door panels, and shift lever surround you in comfort, while hand-stitching and available semi-aniline leather on the seats are a tactile and visual feast.

RECARO SEATS

Available Recaro leather-appointed front seats are built for performance. These bolstered sports seats help keep you in place, while cutouts in the driver’s seat cushion facilitate leg movement. The distinctive black leather with red accents revs up your interior.

A VITAL SENSE OF CONNECTION

NISSAN INTELLIGENT KEY

The Nissan Intelligent Key lets you tap a button on the door handle to lock and unlock your Nissan GT-R, while your keys stay in your pocket or purse. With the standard Push Button Ignition feature, you just get in, push the button, and go.

LOSE THE NOISE, NOT THE SOUL

ACTIVE & PASSIVE SOUND ENHANCEMENT

ACOUSTIC WINDSCREEN

To help reduce outside noise, the GT-R employs a special acoustic windscreen that features sound-absorbing technology between the glass layers.

DASH AND INSTRUMENT PANEL

To reduce unwanted sounds from the engine bay, the GT-R adds an insulator underneath the dashboard and sound-absorbing material behind the instrument panel.

WHEEL WELLS AND BOOT

Road and tyre noise is reduced with insulating material above the rear wheel wells, as well as noise-damping material on the floor of the boot.

ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION

To enhance your drive, Active Noise Cancellation uses information received from the engine, along with a microphone located in the cabin to identify undesirable engine sounds. The system then reproduces an acoustically opposite signal through the sound system, cancelling much of the unwanted noise, letting you savor the invigorating sounds of GT-R’s engine even more.

ACTIVE SOUND ENHANCEMENT

Active Sound Enhancement monitors engine speed and vehicle dynamics, and enhances the engine note inside the cabin through the audio system’s speakers.

BOSE AUDIO SYSTEM

Designed with the GT-R, the available 11-speaker Bose audio system’s dual subwoofers sit between the rear seats, employing the boot as a giant bass enclosure.

Nissan GT-R exhaust sound control interior switch

TITANIUM EXHAUST WITH EXHAUST SOUND CONTROL

There may be times when you’d like to attract less attention to the GT-R’s potent exhaust note. A control in the cabin closes a valve inside the available titanium exhaust that significantly reduces outside exhaust volume – ideal in crowded or urban settings.

ULTIMATE CONFIDENCE

SAFETY

The immense power and capability of the Nissan GT-R comes with a level of safety, control, and convenience features designed to inspire confidence every moment you’re behind the wheel.

AUTO ON/OFF LED HEAD LAMPS

Automatic On/Off LED head lamps respond to light conditions outside, turning on or off when necessary, and leaving you to concentrate on the road ahead.

ZONE BODY CONSTRUCTION

Sometimes a collision is unavoidable. But with Nissan’s Zone Body construction, at least it can be safer for everyone on board. This advanced body construction combines impact-absorbing structures with a high-strength cabin, which helps provide protection for you and your passengers.

6 AIR BAGS

Nissan Advanced Air Bag System includes dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. The inflation rate of these dual-stage air bags adjusts depending on crash severity and seat belt usage.

VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL

GT-R’s advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system not only helps you maintain your steered path, in R-Mode, it actually sends more power to the appropriate wheels when it senses oversteer or understeer, helping you drive with superior power and control.

TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM

All the power in the world is useless if you can’t get any grip. So when TCS senses drive-wheel spin, it responds by helping reduce throttle, which helps you both regain grip and maintain control.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM

In sudden-braking situations, ABS pumps the brakes quickly to help prevent wheel lockup and help you maintain control.

ELECTRONIC BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION

GT-R’s Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) monitors weight distribution and adjusts rear brake force to compensate for added weight from passengers or cargo.

TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM

Take away the guesswork when it comes to tyre pressure with the GT-R’s Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. If pressure is low, a signal illuminates on your dash. Then you can check your Multi-Function Display system to see exactly which tyre is the problem.

SEAT BELT PRETENSIONERS

If your GT-R senses a collision may be imminent, it can activate pre-tensioners to “cinch” up the seat belt to help hold you in place. If a collision does occur, seat belt force limiters can “give” a small amount to help reduce the force of impact.

THE HEART OF THE LEGEND

3.8-L TWIN-TURBO V6

Nissan challenged convention at every point of the Nissan GT-R’s development. Instead of a large, heavy engine thirsty for fuel, the Nissan GT-R is powered by an ideally sized, twin-turbocharged 3.8-L V6 that produces an even more powerful 550HP and equally immense 632Nm of torque, the result of individual ignition-timing control of the cylinders and extra boost from the turbochargers. Just as important as the engineering is the actual assembly, which is done by hand by a single master craftsman, whose signature you’ll find on a small, but prominent, plaque.

550HP VR38 TWIN TURBO ENGINE

An engine designed to answer the demands of a supercar for the 21st century, the VR38 is high-performance, while still being fuel-efficient and conscious of the environment.

IHI INTEGRATED TURBOCHARGER

An IHI turbocharger is mounted on each bank of the engine. By combining the exhaust manifold and turbocharger into a single unit, the intake and exhaust gas flow is optimized. A larger intercooler is installed for more efficient cooling. To ensure there is no turbo lag as torque rises, high-precision electronic controls are employed.

THE PERFECT BLEND OF SIZE AND POWER

Closed Deck and Ladder Frame Structure

The cylinder block features a closed deck for strength. For increased strength, a ladder frame structure was also adopted to give the crankshaft added support, important with the engine’s massive torque. Magnesium alloy was selected for the oil pan and rocker cover for its light weight and strength.

Independent Intake and Exhaust System

For higher horsepower and better response than a naturally aspirated engine, each side of the VR38 features its own turbocharger, intercooler, and catalyst. By employing an independent intake and exhaust system for each side of the V6, intake air flow is increased and exhaust back-pressure is decreased.

Plasma Coating Bore

Innovative plasma-sprayed bores are used in each cylinder instead of traditional cast-iron liners. This enhances cooling, reduces friction and weight while maximising horsepower and increasing fuel-efficiency. Compared to the cast-iron liner, the overall weight decreased by approximately 3 kg (6.6 lbs).

Oil Cooler with Thermostat

For optimal control of engine cooling, the VR38 features a thermostatically controlled oil cooler system. A scavenger pump is employed to help keep oil flowing to the turbochargers, even during the strong lateral Gs experienced on a racecourse.

HAND-FORMED TITANIUM EXHAUST

To ensure the proper cooling from the engine’s massive output, an available titanium exhaust is now offered. Notoriously difficult to work with, each exhaust is hand-built by a master craftsman, and is specifically designed for an individual vehicle. Combined with an exotic sounding exhaust note, it’s music to any enthusiast’s ears.

FROM THE CLEAN ROOM TO THE TEST TRACK

MASTERY EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

Carefully crafting each part, thinking of the mind, body, and spirit of the customers who will use their products – that is the spirit of the Takumi, a part of Japanese tradition. And that is the human soul in the Nissan GT-R, a supercar that could never be created in a factory that only pursues rationality.

ONE MAN, ONE ENGINE

Only five master craftsmen in the world are allowed to hand-assemble the GT-R’s engine and affix a plaque carrying their name.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

PREMIUM MIDSHIP PLATFORM

In another break with convention, Nissan GT-R’s Premium Midship Platform places the engine further back in the chassis for better handling. This unique layout also mounts the transmission with the transfer case in the rear of the Nissan GT-R, creating the world’s first independent rear transaxle for an All-Wheel Drive vehicle.

IT SHIFTS THE WORLD OF TRANSMISSIONS IN JUST 0.15 SECONDS

The longer a shift takes, the less time power is being put to the ground. So for maximum acceleration, the GT-R’s paddle-shifted 6-speed sequential dual-clutch transmission can snap off lightning-quick gear changes in just 0.15 seconds when in R-Mode – almost as quickly as you can blink.

TWO CLUTCHES. NO CLUTCH PEDAL.

The Nissan GT-R’s 6-speed dual-clutch transmission shifts incredibly quickly. How? Inside the transmission, there are separate clutches for the odd (1st, 3rd, 5th) and even (2nd, 4th, 6th) gears. When the car is in an odd-numbered gear, the adjacent even numbered gear is “pre-selected” – ready to make the shift immediately. The transmission is so smart, it even “blips” the throttle on downshifts to match rpm. So even though your left leg may not get much exercise, you’ll have tremendous fun shifting the GT-R.

DRY SUMP LUBRICATION SYSTEM

To ensure stable lubrication for the transmission even when cornering at high Gs, a dry sump lubrication system is employed. The system sprays transmission oil directly onto the gears, reducing friction and increasing reliability.

MULTI-MATERIAL BODY STRUCTURE

The GT-R’s body gets maximum strength from Carbon Aluminium Die-cast Steel, a combination of carbon fibre, die-cast aluminium, and steel. For structural rigidity, aluminium die-cast door inner panels are employed to decrease the amount of deformation during a crash. Die-cast aluminium is also used for the front strut housing and in the front suspension. For added structural rigidity, the suspension’s strut tower bar is made of a lightweight carbon composite containing aluminium honeycomb.

IT STAYS WITHIN THE LINES

Look closely and you can see the obsession. A redesigned front fascia directs air flow around the front wheelwells to reduce drag. A redesigned side sill prevents air from being drawn under the vehicle to provide more consistent downforce. A reshaped C-pillar that cleans the air flow around the upper part of the body, and a redesigned rear fascia that helps reduce drag and pulls cooling air around the exhaust.

IT BREAKS ALL THE RULES

The average car has exposed working gear under the car, where wind whips around, creating lift, and slowing you down. The Nissan GT-R, of course, isn’t an average car. Its underbody is virtually covered by composite panels, giving it a flat, aerodynamic surface. At the front of the car, the flat underbody is accelerating the air and channeling it over the brakes, cooling them down. At the back, a carbon-fibre diffuser takes that accelerated air and slows it down, creating a vacuum effect that helps the Nissan GT-R stick to the road, while a new duct in the diffuser helps cool the titanium exhaust.

ANYTIME, ANYWHERE

ALL-WHEEL DRIVE

When less than ideal conditions mean most supercars stay in the garage or make a hasty retreat, the Nissan GT-R powers through, with one of the most advanced All-Wheel Drive and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) systems ever used in a road car.

PERFORMANCE WITH A BIAS

Instead of the traditional 50/50 torque split between front and rear axles, the electronically controlled All-Wheel Drive system provides nearly 100% of available torque to the rear wheels, and can send up to 50% of torque to the front wheels. This provides the steering feel and response of a Rear-Wheel Drive vehicle, while giving the added confidence that only AWD can offer. Additionally, VDC continuously monitors your steering and braking actions, senses any oversteer or understeer, and compensates by reducing engine speed and/or applying brake pressure to specific wheels.

THE REAL SECRET OF SPEED

SUSPENSION

While horsepower and torque are important, awe-inspiring braking power and handling are the real secrets to rapid progress.

SHOCK ABSORBER

A special Bilstein DampTronic driver-adjustable shock absorber system utilises multiple vehicle information systems to provide appropriate damping forces and a high level of control for a variety of driving situations.

MONOBLOCK CALIPERS

The brakes feature 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers for stronger, more equal clamping power – something you’d expect to see on an all-out competition machine. For extreme rigidity with light weight, the caliper is machined from a single one-piece “monoblock” of aluminium.

FLOATING DISC ROTORS

Along with cross-drilled 390 mm (15.4″) front/380 mm (15.0″) rear rotors to help keep the Nissan GT-R’s brakes cool, you’ll find ingenious diamond-shaped ventilation ribs to pull away heat. The Nissan GT-R also benefits from a full-floating rotor – a racing technology originated by Brembo. By allowing the outer disc to expand away from the hub under extreme heat, it reduces the tendency of the rotor to warp.

WHEELS

The Nissan GT-R’s rigid forged aluminium 20″ wheels, manufactured by RAYS, utilise knurling inside the wheels to help keep the tyres from slipping around the wheels under heavy acceleration or braking. The Y-spoke wheels feature a machined finish, which provides a high-quality, high-performance look.

TYRES

Obsessive detail also shows up in the design of the GT-R’s Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST CTT high-performance run-flat tyres. A tiny block is added to one of the treads to combat tread squirm, and help give a more confident and precise feel at the steering wheel.

MASTERY AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

SETUP SWITCHES

Nissan GT-R’s easy-to-use 3-mode system is always ready. Three switches allow for on-the-fly adjustment of specific performance parameters for the transmission, suspension, and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system.
